I cannot attempt to summarise all of the amazing facts and details that this book provides. However, this is unlike most modern books about grammar.

The authors start off the book by telling the readers that they will not coddle us and plan on writing the topics on their level of understanding. And they do. Most of the chapters are inaccessible unless read multiple times. However, this is one of very few books written about functional linguistics and definitely the most inclusive.

Anonymous More than 1 year ago Understanding Halliday and Matthiessen's book on SFG has not been easy but when I do understand it I feel like they are giving me a lot of insight into what language is and what it does. I recommend this book for anybody who wants to teach language, or anybody who just wants to understand it better. But I have one criticism about Nook. I am trying to use this book in a project but the Nook version does not give page numbers.
It would be really helpful for citing purposes if they put page numbers into it.
